Sludge Controller for Optimal Pond Bottom Management
Water quality management has been considered as one of the most important aspects of pond aqua culture, but less attention has been given to the management of pond bottom for soil quality. The oxidized layer at the sediment surface is highly beneficial and should be maintained throughout the crop period.
The anaerobic microorganisms are able to use oxygen from nitrate, nitrite, sulfate, and carbondioxide to decompose organic matter but they release Nitrogen gas, Ammonia, Hydrogen, Sulfide and Methane as metabolites. Some of the metabolites especially hydrogen sulfide, nitrate can enter the water and potentially toxic to fish and shrimp.
